The Ewe Sogo
A short at home clip showing my Sogo drum, which comes from Ewe tribe in Volta Region (eastern Ghana). This drum is quite special as it is carved from a single piece of wood (not from separate slabs), which gives it an incredibly warm tone with full, deep bodied projection. I don’t typically play the drum in traditional manner, but use often for tracking / studio recording in combination with special percussion brooms from Eckermann Drums. This drum has been many places outside the Volta Region with me, glad still hanging in there!
